Obama: 'What's broken is our politics'
President Obama is kicking off his Midwest bus tour with a town hall in Cannon Falls, Minn., again blasting Congress -- particularly Republicans -- for failing to make the hard choices to reduce the nation's debt and help create jobs.
The president defended his health care plan and criticized GOP presidential candidates for opposing any tax increases whatsoever when it comes to the question of reducing the federal debt.
Some highlights:
1:57 p.m. -- A little girl asks one last question: Why did he visit Cannon Falls?
Obama says he heard it has the smartest and best looking kids around.
1:50 p.m. -- A man follows up on the health care plan -- and worries that the conservative Supreme Court will strike it down. What if that happens?
Obama defends the central feature of the plan -- the requirement that nearly all Americans have to buy health care -- and says it "should not be controversial." He notes that more lower courts have upheld the law than not, and if the Supreme Court follows precedent it should uphold the law as well.
Obama had earlier taken a poke at those who call the plan "Obamacare." "Yes," Obama said, "I do care."
1:45 p.m. -- A woman asks about legalizing medical marijuana. Obama says he opposes it, and it's a state issue. He notes that prescription drugs will be cheaper under his health care plan.
1:42 p.m. -- A man asks about education policy.
Obama says his stimulus plan prevented teachers' layoffs, and he wants "high standards" and "reforms" at the state level.
1:36 p.m. -- A woman who says she's been sleeping in her car expresses concern about Social Security.
Obama pledges to defend Social Security as long as he's president. He did discuss "modest adjustments" to make it more solvent.
He adds what is turning into today's mantra: "The problem is not the program -- it's our politics.

Business Ethics Seminar - Conglomerate Blog: Business, Law ...
Last night I co-taught the first session of a year-long Business Ethics Seminar. It was my first time co-teaching, my first time teaching at night (7:30-9:20!), and my first time teaching this topic.
My partner in crime is my colleague Carol Morgan , who is a dynamo. She teaches courses on M&A and Business Negotiations, and heads up our corporate counsel externship , which places students in-house for a semester.
Carol and I wanted to explore the ethical issues of transactional practice. One of the themes of the course is that ethical issues arise all the time, and so we asked the students to anonymously submit a brief description of an ethical question or dilemma they had confronted in their life--but not what they did. The issues were great, ranging from
a) how to describe clothes on eBay that had been worn for a few hours ("new without tags" or "pre-owned"?) to
b) ignoring company policies forbidding tipping when or working as a server-- or at a retirement home to
c) whether a roofer should report his customer's insurance fraud--and thereby hurt his business.
We told the students at the outset that this was a grand experiment, in terms of course design and content. So far, I'm very pleased.
