Wasilla, Service lead at state tourney
Pempek didn't have a match to get to -- his season ended just before Christmas due to a string of concussions, some of them caused by a car accident 18 months ago. But he's still part of the team and was determined to not let an accident on a snowy highway keep him from the state tournament.
And so after he was taken by ambulance to Providence Alaska Medical Center, where doctors operated on a broken nose, Pempek got to Bartlett around 6:30 Friday night, just in time to watch his best friend, Abe Fox, win a semifinal match at 120 pounds.
"He's had a streak of bad luck," Fox said.
Fox hopes his own luck is a little better when he goes for his second straight state title when finals begin tonight at 5:15. He'll face a familiar opponent in Kodiak's Francis Llorente. Fox beat Llorente in overtime in last weekend's Railbelt Conference final.
Fox was one of nine Wasilla wrestlers to reach Friday's semifinals. Service, last season's runner up, advanced 10.
Wasilla and Service were tied for first place in the team standings at the start of the semifinals, but Service won nine semifinal matches to claim a 223.52-148.53 lead going into today's action, which begins at 9 a.m. with consolation rounds.
"We've been back and forth all year," Wasilla coach Shawn Hayes said of the rivalry with Service.
The first semifinal victory for Service went to Alex Nanez in the 113-pound division. As soon as Nanez earned a 16-1 technical fall over South's Nick Ottum, he headed to the mezzanine that surrounds the Bartlett gym so he could run laps.
"I run for about 20 or 30 minutes, just to keep a sweat going," Nanez said. "I lost maybe one pound."
Nanez weighed in a little heavier than he would have liked Friday morning and said he didn't want to risk being overweight at today's weigh-in. A junior, this will be his second straight trip to the finals, but he lost last season so he doesn't want to blow it.

By JEREMY PETERS Nobody was more relieved to arrive at the Class 4A state wrestling tournament than Caleb Pempek, a member of the defending state champion Wasilla team who totaled his truck Friday morning on his way to Bartlett High.

Jason's truck sports a '03 GMC Sierra front grille and headlights with a Chevrolet HD hood to give it that tough look. The truck is completely shaved all around. The eye-popping paint flows to the inside of the bed with a matching notch cover and a

Question by Bill : Ford F1 Pickup Truck Parts Value?
Exactly what it says it is. Made of synthetic materials and looks like alot of shiny plastic like the orange safety fence you see at construction sites sometimes.
The instructions for mounting or installing are not good, a small 5×7 piece of paper with a few illustrations. Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars. It’s what I expected to pay for and received it in excellent condition and on time.
In order to mount as you see it on the photograph, I’d have to drill holes in the truck bed. Small holes albeit but holes never the less. The adjustable straps just don’t hold it as firmly across as seen in the photograph.
