A cloud interoperable application environment - the VENUS-C Success Story

Just over one year ago a team of scientific experts and industry leaders came together from seven different areas with the objective of delivering an interoperable cloud platform. One year later, the VENUS-C solution has a functional, operative platform to empower the seven original scenarios, 15 new pilots receiving seed funds and several experiments stemming from a highly successful Open Call. Cloud computing promises to revolutionise how science and engineering can be carried out by industry, research organisations and universities alike. To accelerate the adoption of this key technology, it is important that users are able to access Cloud resources to best match their real-world applications to this new way of working. VENUS-C brings together end-users, developers and Cloud providers to create a seamless framework for Cloud computing in Europe, and globally. Just over one year ago a team of scientific experts and industry leaders came together from seven different areas - bioinformatics, systems biology, drug discovery, civil engineering, civil protection and emergencies, and marine biodiversity data - with the objective of delivering an interoperable cloud platform. One year later, the VENUS-C (Virtual Multidisciplinary EnviroNments USing Cloud Infrastructures) solution, a pioneering European Commission 7th Framework Programme project, now has a functional, operative platform to empower the seven original scenarios, 15 new pilots receiving seed funds and several experiments stemming from a highly successful Open Call that attracted 60 proposals from across Europe. VENUS-C success story proves that the availability of multiple cloud-powered resources coupled with resource saving, thanks to the openness of the solutions and the user-centric focus included, are all firelighters for an increasing list of potential research and market actors.

TECHNO – ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY REPORT ( TEFR ) OF AN INDUSTRIAL PROJECT / PROJECT REPORT( contents and sequence )

A) INTRODUCTION

Is a ‘Plan of action report’ (normally printed and bound) which could be used for setting up an industrial project / business activity. It is a Blue print of the business proposed to be set up

This report could be prepared either by engaging the Project Consultants or by the company itself employing expert key personnel as Project Managers

The setting up of the manufacturing activity / business activity could be classified into three stages

1) Pre implementation stage ( project identification, Project report preparation, obtaining the necessary approvals, etc ) 2) Implementation stage ( organizing and installing land, building, machines, etc)3) Post implementation stage ( managing the business, expansion, diversification, modernization, integration, etc )Preparation of a TEFR / Project report comes during Pre – implementation stage

B) BENEFITS OF TEFR

Is a checklist to confirm that all the functional aspects of the manufacturing activity / business is studied prior to implementation, to ensure that the proposed business will be a successful venture
